The Church Council meet regularly to discuss church matters. All the meetings are open meetings, any member of the church can attend.

Church Council

The mums and Tots group has been a part of our church life for many years and is as popular as ever. The sessions are open to all and give children a chance to play and parents/carers a chance to chat. Wednesdays 9.00am.

Our group meets from 9am - 11.15 every Wednesday morning except during school holidays.

We make a small charge of 75p per week which is used to cover our own running costs and to cover the cost to the church of heating and lighting the premises.

We want our Mums and Tots group to be a place where you can make friends and relax and where your children will have an opportunity to learn and play happily along with other children in preparation for that day when they will eventually go to Play Group prior to beginning their School Life.

Contact Betty Broadbent Tel: 0161 343 5298 for further information.

Mums and Tots

The weekly coffee morning is a very popular event, it allows members of our community to meet and chat. Wednesdays 9.45 to 11.15am.

Coffee Morning

Our Carers Support Group began two and a half years ago as a joint venture with St John’s Anglican Church in Dukinfield and we are supported by the Tameside Carers Centre.

This group meets every first Thursday of the month from 11.00 a.m. until 1.00 p.m.  We are fortunate enough to have Arthur who sorts out refreshments for us, this can be anything from soup and cake to meat and potato pie.   We don’t expect Arthur  to do the refreshments but are very grateful that he does, and I know that he very much enjoys doing it for  the group.

We occasionally go out for lunch too.

We meet with other carers and people who have been carers in the past.  We don’t proclaim to know all the answers to any questions that are asked but we will more than likely know someone who can answer them or at least try to.

We also try to do something together at each session whether it is a time of sharing or a time to do an activity.  We discuss ideas together as well as difficulties that we may be facing either together or sometimes on a one to one basis when there is a need for this.

One thing that is evident with the group of people who meet is that we not only care for the people who we may be Carers for but also for the people within the group.

We have men and women of various ages who attend this group and  we appreciate the welcome that the members that  Dukinfield Methodist Church have given to us as part of their outreach into the community.

If you would like to come along to this group please telephone Rev’d Kim Ratcliffe on 0161-330-1503 or Mr Theo Knight on 0161- 344 0269 or Kay Robinson at the Carers Centre on 0161-342-3344 who will be able to give you more information.

Social and Entertainments Group

This year the group celebrates their 25th anniversary - and to mark the occasion, they have decided to present for the second time, the first being 1994, one of the all time-great comedy plays, When We Are Married, written by J.B.Priestley.

The play centres round three couples celebrating their Silver Wedding - or so they think. Add to the equation an un-registered vicar, a tipsy press photographer and a busy-body cleaner, and the farcical plot begins to unfold. When we Are Married has always been a much loved play. In fact, it has just finished a successful revival at the Garrick Theatre London, staring Roy Hudd and Maureen Lipman.

Dates of the performances in the church hall are 17th-19th November commencing at 7-15pm.

For tickets contact Margaret Thorpe - 0161 330 3243 or Elizabeth Pollitt - 0161 308 4733.

The group was formed on the 28th November 1985. Their first production was Spread A Little Happiness in March 1986.

Over the 25 years social events have taken place such as Lancashire Evenings, a Yorkshire night, a Roaring Twenties night, along with many other themed evenings as well as our stage productions of plays and musicals, which have been well supported and brought people in from around the church.
